ESO-VLT Project in Cerro Paranal: Atacama Desert, northern Chile (near Antofagasta)

In this application small telescopes, so-called "siderostats", are used to calibrate subterranean delay line tunnels on four VLT telescopes. With the help of interference, the light of the four 8-metre telescopes is then added together resulting in resolutions equivalent to a mirror with a diameter of over 100 metres.

Halfmann Siderostat has passed the first interference test.
